The 20/10 Bridge

I've decided to ditch the program and make my own. It has been awhile since I last did something, which is pretty pathetic, but I'm going to fight the urge and start down the road to victory once again. I call my workout, "The 20/10 Bridge", it consists of 20 crunches followed by 10 pushups (more if possible, usually in the beginning of the workout) and then at the end of the workout after several 20/10 sets, I hold the bridge position as long as possible. I tested out this workout tonight and it seemed to go pretty decent, so I'll let you know how it goes in the future.

Hopefully I can eventually build the bridge from my current crappy body to a rockin' body (100 pushup type body) in the not too far off future!

Spanning the gap,
A-Pecs

60 is a lot more than 50

I just did my first exhaustion test since the beginning. I started with 45.

The bar is now at 60 for me. I was still completely torn up from my workout on Tuesday. I just need to stay consistent now, and maybe it'll be a triple digit Christmas.

perpectually tired,
Joel

I'MMMM FIFFTYYYYY

First exhaustion test besides the initial.

32 initial exhaustion.

FIFTY. Gotta work on my form towards the latter of the max. Doing good, steam is back

50 is the new 100

OK, my exaust #3 was 40. One more than 2 weeks ago. I've been thinking about this program. I think we're all discouraged and dropping like flies. What's more important, reaching 100 pushups (very doubtful for me) or maintaining a lifetime of solid chest fitness? I've decided to stop doing the "program" and start doing 35 pushups 3x a week working up to 50 and hopefully maintaining. I'll keep blog posting, because this has been a great encouragement to stay with it.

I'm back

Week 4, Day 3, column 3

29, 33, 29, 29, 42 max (my hands didn't leave the ground)

Help has arrived

In case you are having trouble, check this out:

my pal jeff anderson will give you pecs.

I dream about the number 100

Today I made the leap from Week 5 to Week 6...intensity. I am soooo determined to make it to 100 push-ups! The set was 45 55 35 30. I was veeery intimidated so I started in before I could think about it too much. I pumped out the 45 pretty easy. But the 55 was KILLER. My roommate (who is majoring in athletic training) was watching me and suggested assisted push-ups. So I pumped out the first 15 and then he put a belt around my torso and pulled up towards the end of the 35 and 30. On the 55 max I did the first 25 and then he assisted all the rest.

All that to say that jumping from week 5 to week 6 would have been physically impossible without assisted push-ups. This is THE hardest I have ever pushed myself, and it still wouldn't have been enough to keep up with the program. I'm a little skeptical about how plausible this work-out actually is, but I will keep going with the assisted push ups this week and then hopefully next week I'll do week 6 over again without assisted push-ups.
I was a little discouraged at first, but now I'm just determined! Good luck to everyone!

ultimate letdown

I tried my first exhaustion test tonight, and I only did 29. 3 better than when I started six weeks ago!

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!!!???!??!??!?!??!????!?!!??!?!

(cry of anguish)

The few, the proud...

We started with 12 and our ranks are about half. Hang in there brothers and prevail!
Missed a few days, but ventured into week 6 column 1.

The 45 was a killer and I was shaking like an unbalanced washing machine, but I managed to keep my form and pump it out. This is getting TOUGH!

I press on

18.20.17.20.35 (not 45)

And on to the final week, down the center column

death every 60 seconds.

I honored the sixty second breaks today. 18.21.15.15.15. = 84. Six less than what I did on Friday. How will I ever get to 100?

Where's Skibrain?

The author of this 100 push-up challenge seems strangely absent from the blog for the last month. Brainski are you gonna leave us hangin'?? Morale is slumping... please, we need our leader to press upon us the need to stay the course. A century set is surely possible if Brainsky says so!

Is the light at the end of the tunnel fading?

My workouts haven't felt too great since that 2nd exhaustion test, but I'm plugging away and doing my best. I'm sort of starting to doubt this program, but we'll see what happens in the near future. Keep on pressing on everyone!

Project Cleavage

Hello Boob-Brothers,

This is mild mannered Joel Land. My alter ego "Pillar of Earth" didn't show up on wednesday because he was too tired (again) and it was after 12am.

But, tonight he found a Phone Booth and managed to rip a few even though he didn't have his mask on. Here's the breakdown...

WEEK 4 DAY 2 COLUMN 3

25 29 25 25 36

all of these sets (exculding the last) were all pretty strong. And when I say that, I mean, Pillar of Earth looked good and was powerful. Jk citizens of Pectopia.

Michael got a picture beside Pillar of Earth, in which they both showed off their cleavage. It may show up online, but we hope it doesn't.

Here's a funny....

But, Spongebob didn't let that get him down.

Here he is after completing the 100 Pushups. (It took him 15 weeks)

pushing forward

17.21.18.18.16(with Joel helping on the last two reps). a total of 90. The key is that now I'm doing them all without pauses. This is definitely progress even though I did 101 before.

C'mon boys...

25.30.26.26.26 = 133

Trying to get the confidence back

I decided to go back to week 4, day 1, so that I can maintain some sort of confidence. It felt alright but I'm not satisfied. I hope its better next time!

21 25 21 21 25 10

I also decided to burn out twice this time, just to see if that will make any difference on my workouts over time.

A-Pecs

Truckin'

I'm taking the Michael philosophy, of max/set. My goal is more overall reps in 5 sets than the previous time. So far so good. 25.28.25.25.27 = 130

still truckin'

16.20.16.16.16

I may just go to a modified, max every set program.

still lame

it's wednesday already...been so busy i never got back to starting week 3...hopefully thursday...

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I'm back to report on my recent physical achievements. I just tried to shoot for week 5 after stretching the week 4 work-out over 2 weeks. Bad Idea. I put both words in capitalization to show the fact that that statement is not just two words in a poly-worded blog, but it is the title to one of the chapters of my life.
I came back to the dorm after getting pumped up about my physical prowess after doin some treadmill intensity with the ole gf (which stands for gorilla fighter) I burst into my dorm hot and ready (like the little caesar's pizzas) for a pexplosion. I state my intentions with an urgent fervency to the sole occupant of the room. My long-time compatriot and roomie, Joel Land, turns his torso towards me to bring the full force of his meaningful look of deep introspection to bear upon my frenetic presence. He tilts his chin slightly upward and crosses one leg over the other as he calmly informs me that he has decided to repeat the week 4 exercise, but in a more consistent manner so as to power into week 5 with more confidence and muscle mass than ever before. In my misplaced hubris I scoff inwardly at his weak mind and timid ambitions. I pump out the first couple sets with an unprecedented fervor, confident that I will be an example to my weak-willed comrade. After the third set a solid wall of physical exhaustion hit me like a prize fighter's roundhouse fist to an infant's soft, unprotected head. I feel the horse named charlie begin to seize my bicep with an iron grip. My pecs are swollen and difficult to move in the usual full range of motion, yet I am undeterred in my youthful exuberance. I complete my fourth set and begin to realize my mistake...I didn't listen to my personal little buddha of unending wisdom, that is aka'd as Joel Land. So, I sat down and began to write this blog so as to procrastinate from my final max set of 35. This experience has only served to strengthen my resolve and increase my desire for the coveted goal of 100 push-ups in one glorious set.
In conclusion, I would like to exhort and edify all of you who have taken up this most worthy cause to keep on keepin on. I am more fixated than ever on my goal to become one of the small percentage of homo sapiens that have at one point in their life completed 100 consecutive push ups. I am now going to attempt my final max set of 35 now that I am fully rested and adequately inspired.
Onward to victory! Tally-hoooooooo!!!!

pitiful

I only did one day last week, so this week I am repeating week 3...sad...lame...pitiful...

Pissed

I'm back on course. Week 4 day 1 column 3 (again.)

Like my feeble-pecced brethren, I had hoped for this to be review.

Hardly executed the workout. 21/25/21/21/32 (running on empty)

BRAD PITT!!!! BE WITH ME IN TIMES OF NEED!

Weed 4 day 2 AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN. Gotta get sTRONGUHHHH

25. 29. 25. 25. (29. 14)

Wow, feeling PRETTY good.

I feel solid, overall. No pain at ALL. Doing about the same, but I do feel more solid.

I am progressing.

- RCRC

Week 5 is crazy talk, just take it from me

Well, after getting off track, I tried starting Week 5, but to no avail, I didn't do so good. I had to omit the max of 40 because I was already burnt out after 4 sets. After that workout, I'm not really believing in this program, but I'll try to push through. I probably will be backing up to Week 4, Day 2, just to get the confidence back before trying Week 5 again. I must say the lay-off probably wasn't good, but this time I plan on staying with it till the end.
Here is my workout: 36, 40 (25, 5, 5, 5), 30 (16, 7, 2, 2, 3), 24 (20, 4), no max (max was 40)
Inbetween each number in ( ) was a very short break.

Maybe I need to think less of the numbers and just do them.

Anyway, I hope whoever is going on to Week 5 has an extra boost of energy because they might need it. I hope I'm not discouraging, but my workout was ridiculously difficult!

If the program doesn't seem to be working in the future, I might just arrange my own program or something similar to this one. That's only if this program doesn't work though.

Pecly burnt,

i'm going the wrong way

I jumped back to week 3, and I'm planning on doing the hard column. I did the pushups tonight after some intense ultimate frisbee. Mello, I don't know how you do pushups after running. I was spent. I barely made it through, and I had to pause through my sets. I was expecting it to be way easier, so that was pretty discouraging. But, the odds were against me. Long day, little sleep. Not a good combo.

14, 18, 14, 14, 20.

exhausted

I took my end of week 4, exhaustion test today and was alittle disappointed. -39. (not even close to A-pec) First test was 32. I was hoping for at least into the 40s, but noooo. Seems kinda quiet out there, I hope you guys haven't dropped out!!? Rocky wants to hear some progress reports...

Makin' Progress

Finished my week two: 23, 28, 23, 23, 25 I didn't think I was making any gains until I added up my set totals.

Week 1: 86, 88, 90
Week 2: 97, 103, 122

So, here's a question for you...my left pec is bigger than my right!? What gives?

Friday, October 10, 2008

didn't have it today

I tried week 4, day 3, column 2. I did 23, 22, 18, 18, 17. I did as many as I could do each set. It's only 98 total, so I must have lost some pecpower since wednesday. Time to hit the protein hard.

SICKLY: Week 4, column 3, day 2 again again

I've been sick for about 2 days now, so I feel really really weak, but I can't go on without feeding off the PUSH.

Here's the set:

25. 29 (feeling strong now...what's this green hue??). 25. 25 (sweat flowing). 36 1/2 (max was 36).

Holy mother. That was insanity. Feels good to start sweating this sickness out. EPIC

RC

Me and Week 4 need some alone time

Hey gang.

I just got back on track tonight. 161 total. Last pushups were last friday. I'm gonna try hard to stay on track now til the end.

Game. Set. Match. = 29/33/29/29/41

(granted I took a few 2 second breaks on the max)

I'll be repeating week 4 for good measure.

ps. Here is a picture of the progress I've made. Taken after my fifth set of "Week 4 - Day 3"

classic rock, epic struggle.

week 4, day 2, column 2. 20, 25, 20, 20, 16 (max).

101 total. 4 more than Monday, but i took more time before my sets and i had to pause a lot between reps.

classic rock on pandora. i'm not sure if it really got me going. it definitely of lifting in the high school weight room.......maybe i need to try rap?

i'm thinking i'll go back to week 3 next week and try the far right column. this is going to take a lot of work.

edit: Sweet Child O'Mine just came on and I was inspired to do 21 more.

Not exactly what I wanted, but its progress

Here is the video of my 2nd exhaustion test (takes place in the Man Cave):
Background music: "This is Your Life" by Switchfoot

I know some people may think that my push-ups aren't complete, but i am doing them the best way I know how. I hope I inspired, instead of disappointed.

May you continue the journey to 100,

A-Pecs

Okay now... were was I?

So, I am back on board with the program as my past week(s) have been insane. I am no longer going to use the excuse of tired and sore from swimming and lifting. I am going to do 100 pushups by the end of the highschool swimming season (early spring/late winter). Right now I am only on week 2 pretty sure, so....

Week 2, Day 1, colum 2.
a beastly set of:
9/11/9/9

I dont even want to know my max.
...I have a ways to go  :o

I ripped my shirt yesterday because of my massive pecs...in speech class

Week four (column 3), day 2 AGAIN.

I changed up my plan because I was way too busy to do them yesterday (monday). The extra day really really helped.

First 25 were very strong. I feel a lot of my muscles working well together. Feeling very solid, no pains anymore.

25. 29. 25. 25. (29. 18) max was 36

HAHAHA!!! Thanks to Mae's "Brink of Disaster," I powered through my second to last set (25 ) like a champ. I think slapping the rug and screaming at it helped as well........

TOTAL PUSH-UPS: 151

I'm about ready to leave this hell camp...BUT I WILL PUSH ON!

Monday, October 6, 2008

uh buuuuooooy

week 4, column 2. 18, 22, 16 (with a few pauses), 16 (with a few more pauses), the 25 max wasn't happening, so I went 18, and then 7 more after a short break. 97 total. I should get to 100 total by Wednesday.

Looking for advice........do you think I should keep plugging away even though I can't get my maxes in one set, or should I drop back a week or two?

Float like a butterfly

I have to agree with POTE, I'm feeling stronger and getting through the ever increasing reps with ease!? Or could it be that day 1 of each week is just review...
18, 22, 16, 16, 25

pex and fox

I turned on Fox for my daily politics fix...i'm both obsessed and stressed...but I digress. I missed day 2 of week 2, so to make up for lost time, I did day 2 on Sat. and day 3 on Sunday...maybe not a good idea? was still sore from day 2, but in good Germanic fashion, I pressed on. So, week 2 day 3: 12/13/10/10/max (I did 20, though trembling.)
und jetzt, ich bin stark, ja? vielleicht nicht...aber...vielleicht!

It's getting tougher

This time i breathed more during my sets and that almost got rid of my headaches, so that's good news. I've managed to come this far and i know it's only getting tougher from here on out, but i will strive to reach the goal of 100.

29 33 29 29 34 (then 6 more after 7-10 second break)
max = 40, total pushups = 160

I'll be taking my 2nd exhaustion test on Mon or Tues and maybe i'll break 60? Who knows? Maybe more? I guess we'll see when it happens!

Video evidence (especially for my bros) will happen hopefully sometime next week, maybe during my exhaustion test?

Let's all toughen up men!
A-Pecs

Saturday, October 4, 2008

I have done 140 pushups consecutively...

... with a few breaks. Here's the break down.

10 pullups

25/29/25/25/36 (two second break to get last four.)

5 pullups

I'm gonna be honest. I felt as light as a full carbon Trek doing my first set yesterday. 100 is POSSIBLE!

Friday, October 3, 2008

in the gym

Today I did my set at the school rec center. week 3, column 2: 16, 21, 15, 15, 21 (max). Joel spotted me on my last set last rep. How does one spot pushups? Ask Pillar of Earth.

It felt good to do some other lifting, I haven't been doing any since we started the workouts.

Sometimes I wish the government would bailout my sets.....

DO A BARREL ROLL!

Week 4: Day Two

IMORTANT: Watch this first --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIkJvY96i8w

25. 29. 25. 25. max 36

My Set went like deez:
25. (17. 12.) (16. 9.) (20. 5.) (20. 19 1/2.)

HAHAHAH, 19 1/2. On that 20th push up I got half way up, pushed as hard as I could, then my arms gave out and I let out the classic BRAHHHHH!! and barrel roll. These sets are becoming insanity. I CANNOT TURN BACK.

Mix and Match

After my one day of training in week one, I'm determined to get back on track.

Which means I tried this weeks FIRST workout last evening.
Week 2 day 3 regimen yesterday: 16/17/14/14/20.

Followed up this morning with my second workout of the week.
Skipped to week 3 day 2: 20/25/15/15/25....(ok it was 23 max with arms in total fatigue).

I refrained from running around the house without my clothing or spending time in front of the mirror.

Aching start to October

Wow, the first 3 sets were ok, but the fourth set started a headache that increased big time after the fifth and final set. I may have developed a minor case of HFPD (Headaches From Push-ups Disease). I hope this won't set me back much, but my head still feels a little weird, even as I write this blog, despite completing my pushups about 45 minutes ago. It could be that i'm not breathing enough during my sets or maybe i'm just not getting enough water or i'm doing the workout too late at night. Anyway, i'm still keeping on keeping on, rocking out to Pillar, Switchfoot, and Circa Survive.

25, 29, 25, 25, some rest, 37 max, then for some odd reason i did 10 more. don't know why i did that. Total pushups (in 20 min.) = 151

It was a Doozy, with a capital D!

Achingly,
A-Pecs

I am completely miserable San Diego!

"Coming to you live from the halls of dorm life... Ron Burgundy."

Preset: "Ok folks, now Joel hasn't done pushups since Sunday. Turns out sleep is more important to him. Well I say he better get his priorities straightened out."

set 1: "Promiscuous. He got the 21."

set 2: "Pumping out 25 doesn't seem to be a problem. Turns out, milk WAS a good choice."

set 3: "Looks like Jazz isn't the best pump up music. Nonetheless, he stayed classy and got 21"

set 4: "WOW folks, it looks to be a doosey. All of the sudden 7 seems like a lot. That last set, I want to be friends with it. This man is of legal drinking age. Just turned 21."

set 5: "Didn't do it all in one. I'm not even mad. He went to 24 and then took 2 breaks to get to 34. To be honest, this workout does not look enjoyable. Maybe milk curdles at 122 pushups."

"til next time... Go Pec yourself, San Diego."

Day 2: Oh man...

Day 2:

In Kansas City for the week, but I'm staying faithful to you fellas. I don't know if I'm doing so well tho. 10.12.9.9.7(+5)

I put "+5" in parantheses because I wouldn't really count lady's style. It seems like I'm feeling good at set one and two, three gets rough, four barely pulls through and five ....well, let's just say it's a lot of pushing, pulling, grunting and sweating, but it isn't sexy.

I think I'm going to try some stuff mello's been suggesting. Perhaps a warm-up run or something. I feel my cold muscles wrap themselves in blankets and sip hot tea (chamomile mutha..) as I hit set 3, so maybe a good jog before I go prone and square up the shoulders would help.

We'll see. All in all, I'm waiting til I can look back and say with an awesome Daxflame impersonation "100 pushups? Easy."

(If you haven't seen Daxflame, check him out on YouTube - it's very funny)

THE BREAKS

I'll post today's work out as well, I suppose. A little more intense I must say. I think my workouts have been going so well because I always do it when I get back from running. My body is loose and ready to defy gravity's pull. But TODAY was a different story. I didn't get to run due to thunderstorms, so I figured I'd feel much better just doing the push-ups "cold" without running a few miles first. BAD IDEA.

I made it through the set (14-16-12-12-26max), but I wasn't pleased with my max of 26 being the same as Monday's. I wanted it to be higher, but I just couldn't make it. But it's all still going well. My chest is becoming two bricks.

Bricks of gold that is.

Hahahah what?

Motivational song for today was "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow. Incredible.

- Carmello

Gumby

So I never posted my Monday work out. So here it is. I'm still trucking along strong trying to keep my pace going steady. I was pretty pleased with the workout that day, though I'm starting to fear Week 3 looming around the corner. Anyway my set was 14-14-10-10-26max. I was pleased with the 26 max. I was grunting pretty bad and my sister came in (this time I WASN'T naked thank God) and just looked at me for awhile. My arms were so rubber after the max though. Seriously. GUMBY.

Workout set includes the greatest song of 2008 - "Just For Tonight" by One Night Only. If you want to get pumped, listen to it. Love it. It's pushed me through miles and miles of running.

- Carmello

still fighting

I dropped back to the middle column on week 3, day 2. It's the same as week 3, day 1, so I was able to see some improvement today on my sets. Maybe this is related to a little more time between sets?

17, 19, 15, 15, 20 (max, with breaks, but I tried to the plank position will i took a break in between reps. I got stuck on my last rep, i fought and fought, but crumbled. Only to rise again seconds later. I live to see another day.

Week 4:Day One AGAIN

21. 25. 13. 12. 21. 16. 14. 10 (max was 32, had to split it up)

Week four, day one was rough on Monday. I'm doing it again because I could not get the max out in one shot.

First set was cake. Second was quite different. 25 on the second set killed.

WOW, third set of 21, i felt really weak after 13. Took a small break, then finished up. My arms are still way sore from Monday. Uh bouuuyyyy...week 4 is ILL. Bis and tris feel VERY heavy after each set.

Holy Moses, got the second to last 21 set out with screams flowing. I moved my hands up more on the floor, that helped a lot.

Wow, what an insane set. Armpit area no longer hurts anymore. Tris feel very puffed after sets, especially my right. Wow, I may press on when friday somes on and do day 2 for week 4. Hallelujay, i got through that. Total pushups today = 132. Wow that's a lot

Push hard men, PUSH HARD

pexcellent adventure!

week two, column two calls for: 9/11/8/8/11 or max...i did 9/11/8/8/21....aaarrruuuggghhh!!!! ron's pexellent adventure continues!
