A. F. (after feast)

20.20.15.12.14. 81 total.

My initial plan was to do sets of 20. That didn't last too long. Maybe I'm lugging extra weight. That could be why I can't keep improving.

weight room

I took a week and a half off. Not intentionally. Hit the weights hard today though. My bench has improved, so that's neat. Happy holidays. Crank the sets, cram the turkey.

Missed a few days, but still improving.

Strength in numbers

day after

I've been just ripping sets here and there throughout the day. I did get 30 one time, so that was neat. What are opinions on doing workouts the day after?

Friday, November 14, 2008

i'm not going to stop.

the title says it all.

20.23.17.12.15. total = 87. I maxed every set except the first. 90 sec rest.

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

i just got CRAZY

I tried a new workout today: 10 pushups/set with 30 sec. rest. Here's how it went.

7 x10. 9. 6. 6. 5. 4. 4. 2x3 (20 sec. rest). 2x2 (15 sec. rest). 1 (10 sec). 2. 1 (5 sec. rest)

I guess you'd call this a burnout. 118 total.

Sunday, November 9, 2008

to all the doubters.

20.21.16.16.13 + (3 more with the help of POE). total - 86

are we taking applicants?

Laura (my cousin and skibrain's daughter) wants to join the blog. She can only do 3 pushups. Do we let her on? I think she may just want to read the posts.....er...I mean the tales of valor.

pushups...one week later

It's been a week since I've done pushups. 20.18.18.10(hands much closer together, for variety).16. Total = 82.

I watched myself in the mirror today, and I realized that I'm going down really deep. Having long arms is not an asset when it comes to pushups.

I stopped labeling. Where am I? Lost on a journey.

I need my Pecto brothers!

OK, guys I can't do this alone...

Week 6, basically one max set, Mon, Wed, Fri.

uh buoy. I feel like my chest is made out of Quikrete.

I wish I had a Samwise Gamgee to carry me.

I'm gonna pass on the 40 rep max. I just tried doing one pushup after 5 min. break but the Quikrete was already curing. Have you ever dripped sweat while doing pushups? me neither, until tonight.

ps. my abs are getting just as good of a workout as my pecs and tri's.

My week

So, last week I started my regiment of 35+ push-ups 3x a week for life?

The 20/10 Bridge

I've decided to ditch the program and make my own. It has been awhile since I last did something, which is pretty pathetic, but I'm going to fight the urge and start down the road to victory once again. I call my workout, "The 20/10 Bridge", it consists of 20 crunches followed by 10 pushups (more if possible, usually in the beginning of the workout) and then at the end of the workout after several 20/10 sets, I hold the bridge position as long as possible. I tested out this workout tonight and it seemed to go pretty decent, so I'll let you know how it goes in the future.

Hopefully I can eventually build the bridge from my current crappy body to a rockin' body (100 pushup type body) in the not too far off future!

Spanning the gap,
A-Pecs

60 is a lot more than 50

I just did my first exhaustion test since the beginning. I started with 45.

The bar is now at 60 for me. I was still completely torn up from my workout on Tuesday. I just need to stay consistent now, and maybe it'll be a triple digit Christmas.

perpectually tired,
Joel

I'MMMM FIFFTYYYYY

First exhaustion test besides the initial.

32 initial exhaustion.

FIFTY. Gotta work on my form towards the latter of the max. Doing good, steam is back

50 is the new 100

OK, my exaust #3 was 40. One more than 2 weeks ago. I've been thinking about this program. I think we're all discouraged and dropping like flies. What's more important, reaching 100 pushups (very doubtful for me) or maintaining a lifetime of solid chest fitness? I've decided to stop doing the "program" and start doing 35 pushups 3x a week working up to 50 and hopefully maintaining. I'll keep blog posting, because this has been a great encouragement to stay with it.

I'm back

Week 4, Day 3, column 3

Help has arrived

In case you are having trouble, check this out:

my pal jeff anderson will give you pecs.

I dream about the number 100

Today I made the leap from Week 5 to Week 6...intensity. I am soooo determined to make it to 100 push-ups! The set was 45 55 35 30. I was veeery intimidated so I started in before I could think about it too much. I pumped out the 45 pretty easy. But the 55 was KILLER. My roommate (who is majoring in athletic training) was watching me and suggested assisted push-ups. So I pumped out the first 15 and then he put a belt around my torso and pulled up towards the end of the 35 and 30. On the 55 max I did the first 25 and then he assisted all the rest.

All that to say that jumping from week 5 to week 6 would have been physically impossible without assisted push-ups. This is THE hardest I have ever pushed myself, and it still wouldn't have been enough to keep up with the program. I'm a little skeptical about how plausible this work-out actually is, but I will keep going with the assisted push ups this week and then hopefully next week I'll do week 6 over again without assisted push-ups.
I was a little discouraged at first, but now I'm just determined! Good luck to everyone!

ultimate letdown

I tried my first exhaustion test tonight, and I only did 29. 3 better than when I started six weeks ago!

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!!!???!??!??!?!??!????!?!!??!?!

(cry of anguish)

The few, the proud...

We started with 12 and our ranks are about half. Hang in there brothers and prevail!

18.20.17.20.35 (not 45)

And on to the final week, down the center column

death every 60 seconds.

I honored the sixty second breaks today. 18.21.15.15.15. = 84. Six less than what I did on Friday. How will I ever get to 100?

Where's Skibrain?

The author of this 100 push-up challenge seems strangely absent from the blog for the last month. Brainski are you gonna leave us hangin'?? Morale is slumping... please, we need our leader to press upon us the need to stay the course. A century set is surely possible if Brainsky says so!

Is the light at the end of the tunnel fading?

My workouts haven't felt too great since that 2nd exhaustion test, but I'm plugging away and doing my best. I'm sort of starting to doubt this program, but we'll see what happens in the near future. Keep on pressing on everyone!

Project Cleavage

Hello Boob-Brothers,

This is mild mannered Joel Land. My alter ego "Pillar of Earth" didn't show up on wednesday because he was too tired (again) and it was after 12am.

But, tonight he found a Phone Booth and managed to rip a few even though he didn't have his mask on. Here's the breakdown...

WEEK 4 DAY 2 COLUMN 3

25 29 25 25 36

all of these sets (exculding the last) were all pretty strong. And when I say that, I mean, Pillar of Earth looked good and was powerful. Jk citizens of Pectopia.

Michael got a picture beside Pillar of Earth, in which they both showed off their cleavage. It may show up online, but we hope it doesn't.

Here's a funny....

But, Spongebob didn't let that get him down.

Here he is after completing the 100 Pushups. (It took him 15 weeks)

pushing forward

17.21.18.18.16(with Joel helping on the last two reps). a total of 90. The key is that now I'm doing them all without pauses. This is definitely progress even though I did 101 before.

C'mon boys...

25.30.26.26.26 = 133

Trying to get the confidence back

I decided to go back to week 4, day 1, so that I can maintain some sort of confidence. It felt alright but I'm not satisfied. I hope its better next time!

21 25 21 21 25 10

I also decided to burn out twice this time, just to see if that will make any difference on my workouts over time.

A-Pecs

Truckin'

I'm taking the Michael philosophy, of max/set. My goal is more overall reps in 5 sets than the previous time. So far so good. 25.28.25.25.27 = 130

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

still truckin'

16.20.16.16.16

I may just go to a modified, max every set program.

still lame

it's wednesday already...been so busy i never got back to starting week 3...hopefully thursday...

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I'm back to report on my recent physical achievements. I just tried to shoot for week 5 after stretching the week 4 work-out over 2 weeks. Bad Idea. I put both words in capitalization to show the fact that that statement is not just two words in a poly-worded blog, but it is the title to one of the chapters of my life.
I came back to the dorm after getting pumped up about my physical prowess after doin some treadmill intensity with the ole gf (which stands for gorilla fighter) I burst into my dorm hot and ready (like the little caesar's pizzas) for a pexplosion. I state my intentions with an urgent fervency to the sole occupant of the room. My long-time compatriot and roomie, Joel Land, turns his torso towards me to bring the full force of his meaningful look of deep introspection to bear upon my frenetic presence. He tilts his chin slightly upward and crosses one leg over the other as he calmly informs me that he has decided to repeat the week 4 exercise, but in a more consistent manner so as to power into week 5 with more confidence and muscle mass than ever before. In my misplaced hubris I scoff inwardly at his weak mind and timid ambitions. I pump out the first couple sets with an unprecedented fervor, confident that I will be an example to my weak-willed comrade. After the third set a solid wall of physical exhaustion hit me like a prize fighter's roundhouse fist to an infant's soft, unprotected head. I feel the horse named charlie begin to seize my bicep with an iron grip. My pecs are swollen and difficult to move in the usual full range of motion, yet I am undeterred in my youthful exuberance. I complete my fourth set and begin to realize my mistake...I didn't listen to my personal little buddha of unending wisdom, that is aka'd as Joel Land. So, I sat down and began to write this blog so as to procrastinate from my final max set of 35. This experience has only served to strengthen my resolve and increase my desire for the coveted goal of 100 push-ups in one glorious set.
In conclusion, I would like to exhort and edify all of you who have taken up this most worthy cause to keep on keepin on. I am more fixated than ever on my goal to become one of the small percentage of homo sapiens that have at one point in their life completed 100 consecutive push ups. I am now going to attempt my final max set of 35 now that I am fully rested and adequately inspired.
Onward to victory! Tally-hoooooooo!!!!

pitiful

I only did one day last week, so this week I am repeating week 3...sad...lame...pitiful...

Pissed

I'm back on course. Week 4 day 1 column 3 (again.)

Like my feeble-pecced brethren, I had hoped for this to be review.

Hardly executed the workout. 21/25/21/21/32 (running on empty)

BRAD PITT!!!! BE WITH ME IN TIMES OF NEED!

Weed 4 day 2 AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN. Gotta get sTRONGUHHHH

25. 29. 25. 25. (29. 14)

Wow, feeling PRETTY good.

I feel solid, overall. No pain at ALL. Doing about the same, but I do feel more solid.

I am progressing.

- RCRC

Week 5 is crazy talk, just take it from me

Well, after getting off track, I tried starting Week 5, but to no avail, I didn't do so good. I had to omit the max of 40 because I was already burnt out after 4 sets. After that workout, I'm not really believing in this program, but I'll try to push through. I probably will be backing up to Week 4, Day 2, just to get the confidence back before trying Week 5 again. I must say the lay-off probably wasn't good, but this time I plan on staying with it till the end.
Here is my workout: 36, 40 (25, 5, 5, 5), 30 (16, 7, 2, 2, 3), 24 (20, 4), no max (max was 40)
Inbetween each number in ( ) was a very short break.

Maybe I need to think less of the numbers and just do them.

Anyway, I hope whoever is going on to Week 5 has an extra boost of energy because they might need it. I hope I'm not discouraging, but my workout was ridiculously difficult!

If the program doesn't seem to be working in the future, I might just arrange my own program or something similar to this one. That's only if this program doesn't work though.

Pecly burnt,

i'm going the wrong way

I jumped back to week 3, and I'm planning on doing the hard column. I did the pushups tonight after some intense ultimate frisbee. Mello, I don't know how you do pushups after running. I was spent. I barely made it through, and I had to pause through my sets. I was expecting it to be way easier, so that was pretty discouraging. But, the odds were against me. Long day, little sleep. Not a good combo.

14, 18, 14, 14, 20.

exhausted

I took my end of week 4, exhaustion test today and was alittle disappointed. -39. (not even close to A-pec) First test was 32. I was hoping for at least into the 40s, but noooo. Seems kinda quiet out there, I hope you guys haven't dropped out!!? Rocky wants to hear some progress reports...

Makin' Progress

Finished my week two: 23, 28, 23, 23, 25 I didn't think I was making any gains until I added up my set totals.

Week 1: 86, 88, 90
Week 2: 97, 103, 122

So, here's a question for you...my left pec is bigger than my right!? What gives?

Friday, October 10, 2008

didn't have it today

I tried week 4, day 3, column 2. I did 23, 22, 18, 18, 17. I did as many as I could do each set. It's only 98 total, so I must have lost some pecpower since wednesday. Time to hit the protein hard.

SICKLY: Week 4, column 3, day 2 again again

I've been sick for about 2 days now, so I feel really really weak, but I can't go on without feeding off the PUSH.

Here's the set:

25. 29 (feeling strong now...what's this green hue??). 25. 25 (sweat flowing). 36 1/2 (max was 36).

Holy mother. That was insanity. Feels good to start sweating this sickness out. EPIC

Me and Week 4 need some alone time

Hey gang.

I just got back on track tonight. 161 total. Last pushups were last friday. I'm gonna try hard to stay on track now til the end.

Game. Set. Match. = 29/33/29/29/41

(granted I took a few 2 second breaks on the max)

I'll be repeating week 4 for good measure.

ps. Here is a picture of the progress I've made. Taken after my fifth set of "Week 4 - Day 3"

classic rock, epic struggle.

week 4, day 2, column 2. 20, 25, 20, 20, 16 (max).

101 total. 4 more than Monday, but i took more time before my sets and i had to pause a lot between reps.

classic rock on pandora. i'm not sure if it really got me going. it definitely of lifting in the high school weight room.......maybe i need to try rap?

i'm thinking i'll go back to week 3 next week and try the far right column. this is going to take a lot of work.

edit: Sweet Child O'Mine just came on and I was inspired to do 21 more.

Not exactly what I wanted, but its progress

Here is the video of my 2nd exhaustion test (takes place in the Man Cave):
Background music: "This is Your Life" by Switchfoot

I know some people may think that my push-ups aren't complete, but i am doing them the best way I know how. I hope I inspired, instead of disappointed.

May you continue the journey to 100,

A-Pecs

Okay now... were was I?

So, I am back on board with the program as my past week(s) have been insane. I am no longer going to use the excuse of tired and sore from swimming and lifting. I am going to do 100 pushups by the end of the highschool swimming season (early spring/late winter). Right now I am only on week 2 pretty sure, so....

Week 2, Day 1, colum 2.
a beastly set of:
9/11/9/9

I dont even want to know my max.
...I have a ways to go  :o

I ripped my shirt yesterday because of my massive pecs...in speech class

Week four (column 3), day 2 AGAIN.

I changed up my plan because I was way too busy to do them yesterday (monday). The extra day really really helped.

First 25 were very strong. I feel a lot of my muscles working well together. Feeling very solid, no pains anymore.

25. 29. 25. 25. (29. 18) max was 36

HAHAHA!!! Thanks to Mae's "Brink of Disaster," I powered through my second to last set (25 ) like a champ. I think slapping the rug and screaming at it helped as well........

TOTAL PUSH-UPS: 151

I'm about ready to leave this hell camp...BUT I WILL PUSH ON!

Monday, October 6, 2008

uh buuuuooooy

week 4, column 2. 18, 22, 16 (with a few pauses), 16 (with a few more pauses), the 25 max wasn't happening, so I went 18, and then 7 more after a short break. 97 total. I should get to 100 total by Wednesday.

Looking for advice........do you think I should keep plugging away even though I can't get my maxes in one set, or should I drop back a week or two?

Float like a butterfly

I have to agree with POTE, I'm feeling stronger and getting through the ever increasing reps with ease!? Or could it be that day 1 of each week is just review...
18, 22, 16, 16, 25

pex and fox

I turned on Fox for my daily politics fix...i'm both obsessed and stressed...but I digress. I missed day 2 of week 2, so to make up for lost time, I did day 2 on Sat. and day 3 on Sunday...maybe not a good idea? was still sore from day 2, but in good Germanic fashion, I pressed on. So, week 2 day 3: 12/13/10/10/max (I did 20, though trembling.)
und jetzt, ich bin stark, ja? vielleicht nicht...aber...vielleicht!

It's getting tougher

This time i breathed more during my sets and that almost got rid of my headaches, so that's good news. I've managed to come this far and i know it's only getting tougher from here on out, but i will strive to reach the goal of 100.

29 33 29 29 34 (then 6 more after 7-10 second break)
max = 40, total pushups = 160

I'll be taking my 2nd exhaustion test on Mon or Tues and maybe i'll break 60? Who knows? Maybe more? I guess we'll see when it happens!

Video evidence (especially for my bros) will happen hopefully sometime next week, maybe during my exhaustion test?

Let's all toughen up men!
A-Pecs

Saturday, October 4, 2008

I have done 140 pushups consecutively...

... with a few breaks. Here's the break down.

10 pullups

25/29/25/25/36 (two second break to get last four.)

5 pullups

I'm gonna be honest. I felt as light as a full carbon Trek doing my first set yesterday. 100 is POSSIBLE!

Friday, October 3, 2008

in the gym

Today I did my set at the school rec center. week 3, column 2: 16, 21, 15, 15, 21 (max). Joel spotted me on my last set last rep. How does one spot pushups? Ask Pillar of Earth.

It felt good to do some other lifting, I haven't been doing any since we started the workouts.

Sometimes I wish the government would bailout my sets.....

DO A BARREL ROLL!

Week 4: Day Two

IMORTANT: Watch this first --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIkJvY96i8w

25. 29. 25. 25. max 36

My Set went like deez:
25. (17. 12.) (16. 9.) (20. 5.) (20. 19 1/2.)

HAHAHAH, 19 1/2. On that 20th push up I got half way up, pushed as hard as I could, then my arms gave out and I let out the classic BRAHHHHH!! and barrel roll. These sets are becoming insanity. I CANNOT TURN BACK.

Mix and Match

After my one day of training in week one, I'm determined to get back on track.

Which means I tried this weeks FIRST workout last evening.
Week 2 day 3 regimen yesterday: 16/17/14/14/20.

Followed up this morning with my second workout of the week.
Skipped to week 3 day 2: 20/25/15/15/25....(ok it was 23 max with arms in total fatigue).

I refrained from running around the house without my clothing or spending time in front of the mirror.

Aching start to October

Wow, the first 3 sets were ok, but the fourth set started a headache that increased big time after the fifth and final set. I may have developed a minor case of HFPD (Headaches From Push-ups Disease). I hope this won't set me back much, but my head still feels a little weird, even as I write this blog, despite completing my pushups about 45 minutes ago. It could be that i'm not breathing enough during my sets or maybe i'm just not getting enough water or i'm doing the workout too late at night. Anyway, i'm still keeping on keeping on, rocking out to Pillar, Switchfoot, and Circa Survive.

25, 29, 25, 25, some rest, 37 max, then for some odd reason i did 10 more. don't know why i did that. Total pushups (in 20 min.) = 151

It was a Doozy, with a capital D!

Achingly,
A-Pecs

I am completely miserable San Diego!

"Coming to you live from the halls of dorm life... Ron Burgundy."

Preset: "Ok folks, now Joel hasn't done pushups since Sunday. Turns out sleep is more important to him. Well I say he better get his priorities straightened out."

set 1: "Promiscuous. He got the 21."

set 2: "Pumping out 25 doesn't seem to be a problem. Turns out, milk WAS a good choice."

set 3: "Looks like Jazz isn't the best pump up music. Nonetheless, he stayed classy and got 21"

set 4: "WOW folks, it looks to be a doosey. All of the sudden 7 seems like a lot. That last set, I want to be friends with it. This man is of legal drinking age. Just turned 21."

set 5: "Didn't do it all in one. I'm not even mad. He went to 24 and then took 2 breaks to get to 34. To be honest, this workout does not look enjoyable. Maybe milk curdles at 122 pushups."

"til next time... Go Pec yourself, San Diego."

Day 2: Oh man...

Day 2:

In Kansas City for the week, but I'm staying faithful to you fellas. I don't know if I'm doing so well tho. 10.12.9.9.7(+5)

I put "+5" in parantheses because I wouldn't really count lady's style. It seems like I'm feeling good at set one and two, three gets rough, four barely pulls through and five ....well, let's just say it's a lot of pushing, pulling, grunting and sweating, but it isn't sexy.

I think I'm going to try some stuff mello's been suggesting. Perhaps a warm-up run or something. I feel my cold muscles wrap themselves in blankets and sip hot tea (chamomile mutha..) as I hit set 3, so maybe a good jog before I go prone and square up the shoulders would help.

We'll see. All in all, I'm waiting til I can look back and say with an awesome Daxflame impersonation "100 pushups? Easy."

(If you haven't seen Daxflame, check him out on YouTube - it's very funny)

THE BREAKS

I'll post today's work out as well, I suppose. A little more intense I must say. I think my workouts have been going so well because I always do it when I get back from running. My body is loose and ready to defy gravity's pull. But TODAY was a different story. I didn't get to run due to thunderstorms, so I figured I'd feel much better just doing the push-ups "cold" without running a few miles first. BAD IDEA.

I made it through the set (14-16-12-12-26max), but I wasn't pleased with my max of 26 being the same as Monday's. I wanted it to be higher, but I just couldn't make it. But it's all still going well. My chest is becoming two bricks.

Bricks of gold that is.

Hahahah what?

Motivational song for today was "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow. Incredible.

Gumby

So I never posted my Monday work out. So here it is. I'm still trucking along strong trying to keep my pace going steady. I was pretty pleased with the workout that day, though I'm starting to fear Week 3 looming around the corner. Anyway my set was 14-14-10-10-26max. I was pleased with the 26 max. I was grunting pretty bad and my sister came in (this time I WASN'T naked thank God) and just looked at me for awhile. My arms were so rubber after the max though. Seriously. GUMBY.

Workout set includes the greatest song of 2008 - "Just For Tonight" by One Night Only. If you want to get pumped, listen to it. Love it. It's pushed me through miles and miles of running.

still fighting

I dropped back to the middle column on week 3, day 2. It's the same as week 3, day 1, so I was able to see some improvement today on my sets. Maybe this is related to a little more time between sets?

17, 19, 15, 15, 20 (max, with breaks, but I tried to the plank position will i took a break in between reps. I got stuck on my last rep, i fought and fought, but crumbled. Only to rise again seconds later. I live to see another day.

Week 4:Day One AGAIN

21. 25. 13. 12. 21. 16. 14. 10 (max was 32, had to split it up)

Week four, day one was rough on Monday. I'm doing it again because I could not get the max out in one shot.

First set was cake. Second was quite different. 25 on the second set killed.

WOW, third set of 21, i felt really weak after 13. Took a small break, then finished up. My arms are still way sore from Monday. Uh bouuuyyyy...week 4 is ILL. Bis and tris feel VERY heavy after each set.

Holy Moses, got the second to last 21 set out with screams flowing. I moved my hands up more on the floor, that helped a lot.

Wow, what an insane set. Armpit area no longer hurts anymore. Tris feel very puffed after sets, especially my right. Wow, I may press on when friday somes on and do day 2 for week 4. Hallelujay, i got through that. Total pushups today = 132. Wow that's a lot

Push hard men, PUSH HARD

pexcellent adventure!

week two, column two calls for: 9/11/8/8/11 or max...i did 9/11/8/8/21....aaarrruuuggghhh!!!! ron's pexellent adventure continues!

Ending September with a bang

Week 4, day 1. I listened to POD, Coldplay, and Coheed and Cambria as i pounded out my p-ups.

21 25 21 21 27 (5-second break) 5 --> max = 32, total p-ups = 120

My victory song was none other than "September" by Earth, Wind, & Fire, i thought it was a good way to honor my September pushup effort! Hope you all finished off September satisfied!

i just wasn't ready

I tried week 3 column 3. It was too much: 17, 19, 15, 12, 11 (break), 3 (break), 7 (I held the plank position right before accessing my reserves for the last rep).

Chicago helped me today. I'm thinking this could take longer than 6 weeks. Either that or I need to hit the protein shakes.....I'd never do that.

HOW MUCH CAN THIS BODY TAKE! HUAH!!!

21. 25. 21. 21. 22 (finished up last 14 after) Max was supposed to be 32. SO HARDDDD (total max came to 36)

"booya! Booya! HUHHHH!!!! HUAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!"
"BBRRRAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

actual post-rep screams.

Long break before the 32 max set. HOLY HOLY.

Tris are extremely heavy. Filled with lead marshmallow.

What an insane set. I am sweating profusely. I knew that max was daunting, WOW. I may do this day again on wednesday. Arms are so heavy....BLESS THOUST LORDSZZZ.

Uhhhh...

I never posted about my final set of week one last Friday. I polished off my first week quite nicely. 11-15-9-9-21(max). I was pretty proud of the 21. I'm really excited about starting off week two today!

But here's the most hilarious/disturbing thing. I've been doing these push-ups after I get done running on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. My clothes are drenched in sweat and therefore add about 100 extra pounds to my body when I'm trying to do my push-ups. Last week I was down to my boxers on M and W...but on Friday I went full board and decided to do my push-ups completely naked hahahahahaha. Man, guys. You wanna talk about FREEDOM? Do your push-ups like that. I felt like a Greek Olympian.

There is a down-side though. I was in my room door shut and I pumped out the set no problem. Then I got up and was just walking around naked. But then I ALMOST walked right out of my room NAKED in order go talk to my family. It was as if walking out there naked and having a conversation would have been no big deal, right?

WRONG.

I felt so comfortable in my own skin after working out that I came SO CLOSE to making a hideous error that would have cost me most of my dignity for the rest of my life. I laughed so hard at how stupid I am.

So anyway, good workout. Do it naked.

Serious Ketchup

After day one of the first week, things got really busy and I had to set this program aside. I'm committed to getting back on track and "representing" for the non 2o-something group.  I can't say that stump pulling and boat lift "dead lifts" were good cross training, but I'm plenty sore.

Not So Cocky Now

I've saved my weekly sheet as the background for my desktop, so I think about pushups everytime I use my computer. I'm consumed with this idea and vow to reach 100 pushups. here I go: I'm starting week 2, column 2, based on the very wise Michael and his suggestion.

Set 1: too easy. I'm thinking I should've started week 3, maybe...

Set 2: ok, what just happened. My arms are shaking a little as I type.

Set 3: 8 more. Feeling the pressure in my pecs. I feel like the tinman as I come back up from #7.

set 4: Losing it now... I fight for four as if I'm underwater, "have to surface...so far to go." I breathe.
Again on six, and eight. I let out some battlecry and almost scare myself, "Where'd that come from?"

set 5: I bottom out at six, and think, "I'm gonna have to type that I gave up at six...no way." Keep pushing, keep fighting. Arms buckle at eight, chest bumps the floor and I have to arc my back to overcome. Bad form, I think. I switch to ladies' style and barely push out two more. I feel like such a moron. Too cocky. Look at me now: Ladies pushups.

9,11, 8, 8, 10

Oh, man. What's gonna happen Wednesday?
i missed day 3, so am going to have to try to figure out the best way to make up the time...maybe do day 3 today and start week 2 tomorrow if i can manage it. sigh.

This is tuff stuff. I might repeat week 3 for good measure.

initial test

Ok. After Michael reminded me, I went home and took the initial test. At about 15, my arms wobbled and I had to concentrate to push out the last few. "16....17..." my wife was counting. "C'mon, 18..." she said and I almost gave up on 19. I'm telling you 20 wouldn't have happened without my wife. Seriously guys, do your reps with girls present.

I start Monday :-)

Rocky weighs in

OK, I got in on this little adventure late, news travels slow to Colo. My baseline was 32, so I guess that puts me at week 3...right on pace with the rest of you?
17, 19. 15, 15, 20 Sorry to say I'm taking longer between sets than 60 seconds!

i did what i could

I tried my best, but i guess my best wasn't good enough...............to get the last 2 reps of the last set. I even let out a battle cry to get 25 & 26, then i couldn't do anymore. I took about a 7-10 second break and pounded out about 4 more. That was by far the hardest day yet, but i'm glad i did what i did. i had a little bit more rest in between sets this time because it was required. The workout lasted almost 20 min., it was absolutely ridiculous!!

22 30 20 20 26 (then 4 more after a 7-10 second break), total pushups = 122

insanely pec-ed out,

this is how i do

week 2, day 3 workout: 16, 18, 14, 14, 20 (max). As you can see from the video, song choice was prime (POD: youth of the nation). hahahaha. I did this workout a little later than I planned, so I wasn't expecting killer results. I'm satisfied with this one though. I'm going to go ahead and say it. I think we all agree the best part of the workout is getting done with that last set, then ripping off your shirt and looking in the mirror. Don't pretend like you don't do it.

I'm planning on posting a videos of my milestones: 50, 75, and then 100 in a row.

Motivational Noise: "Transformers Theme" by MuteMath

Left tri / pit pain as I reach the top of the push up. Quite frustrating. This set seemed daunting, especially the max of 28. Long breaks needed, slight burn in pit area...uh bbooouuuyyyy.

22. 30. 20. 20. 28

The pecs have about 30lbs of pressure in them. Soon, to bring them to a cool 90 at the top, the firmness of a racing bicycle tire.

WWOOOOOOWWWWWW. Just BARELY got that final 28th push up in. My right arm, all by itself, called upon the stiff palm (no fingers touching the ground) to bring me to the top. I finished with a warrior's yell and a barrell roll to the side. I immediately laughed and got on here to blog. Mute math's "Noticed" brought me through that last set.
HAHAHAHAHAH..... "BBRRRRRRRAAAAAHHHHH!!!" (barrell roll)

elder report

so...i am week one, just did day two which is supposed to be 6/8/6/6 then max, at least 7. i did 6/8/6/6/18...so i'm pretty happy with that. esp. since i'm not a 20-something competitor...just sayin'.

Am I Re-Roofing our house?

No, but I sure do have shingles. Yes, a rash on my back has appeared, probably due to the stress of the pretest. I am taking medicine now (but don't worry, they aren't steroids. DARN!) Anyway, I will persevere. Didn't post last night because I was showered and in bed right after the workout.

However, I discovered a technique that helped me through my 2nd set. I changed the music track for every set that I did. Seems ridiculous I know, but it keeps your mind off of the pain.

Also, I recommend doing the sets earlier in the day. If you don't, your body is tired from just being awake the whole day. Doing the pushups early will also allow you to relax throughout the day when doing everyday things.

week 3 day 2 column 3 ----- 20 25 15 15 27

ps. (if you don't do well reading negative things and staying positive, DO NOT read this next part. It's my vent)

I am going negative on this program. I don't understand why being able to do 100 consecutive pushups will do anything. I'll just have boobs too big for my tiny frame and waist. Besides, doing pushups doesn't even work your upper pecs, which is the area where most people are lacking, resulting in non-self-supporting boobs. Someone pull me out of the discouragement mire.

MY CHEST IS THE SIZE OF AFRICA

I keep feeling my chest at work. I REALLY gotta stop doing that. I think the kids think either A. "Mr. Chiara is extremely vain. His chest isn't that great" or... B. "Mr. Chiara is extremely creepy. I wish he would stop fondling his chest while he teaches us."

Today went well though. No worries. My set was 10-12-8-8-16(max). I'm feeling real good. I'm liking my pace and I think that if I had started higher I would have quit by now. But this gradual build up is exactly my style. Currently I have no fears of reaching 100 whatsoever. My body continues to ooze out the evil in liquid form.

My workout music has been all the greatest hits from the 80's. The other day I was wandering my library and saw this seven disc set called "Like, Omigod! The 80's Pop Culture Box" I was sold. I've been pumping my body to "Dancing with Myself" by Billy Idol, "Hold On Loosely" by .38 Special, and "Africa" by Toto (<--- a weird choice, I know). Love it guys.

Out of the game: Left Pec Exploded

Well gentlemen. Week 3: Day 2 complete. I did my max of at least 25 right on the money. I was shaking quite a bit by 22, so I just stopped. Michael, yelling as usual while eating peanut butter and oat sandwiches with honey, pushed me onward. I stopped at 25, did a few more, break, few more.

32 Max with a few stops. My left pit and tri was weak and semi-hurting from set one. Uh bouy, got them down, but hopefully day 3 will be painless.

A Blessing.

Europe carried me.

I'm pumped about my workout today. Many factors contributed. #1. I dropped back to week 2, day 2. I was able to finish the workout: 14, 16, 12, 12, 18(max). #2. I had a good night's rest and I did the workout earlier in the day.

Most important factor: "The Final Countdown" by Europe. It got me going. Right as I was beginning my second set, the lyrics rang loud and clear: "we're heading for venus (venus) (venus)." hahahaha. After this track came "Rock the Night." I've found my rhythm.

A suggestion for all of you: In the bottom of the blog post text box is a place for you to label your post. I'm going to start a numbering system that will allow us to track our progress as a group. If you would, label your workout posts in this format: week(x).day(y). So for me today it was week 1 and day 2. My label looks like this: 1.2

Blogging Noob, Firmer Boob

So far I am finding navigating back to the new post page of this blog, more challenging than the PUSH UPS.
Jeff and I with our beefy 30/32 pre-tests, took a look at week 3 as recommended, and opted for the more gradual ramp-up of a week 2 program.

I sort of lost track of what I was supposed to be doing and just did 5 sets of 15 on day 1. Very tender sternum on the day after the pretest, feeling no pain today. We'll see how tomorrow goes. Training for the big 100 looks a bit like training for the 26.2 mile Marathon but never actually running more than 18 miles before race day. 100 seems like a bunch.

I Discovered a New Muscle

So Day 1 is in the bag. I decided that instead of ruining my life by doing my push-ups before bed, I would do them right after going out to run. It was a good decision, and in the end I never realized that my shoulders could ooze sweat like that.

Since I did 14 for my pre-test I'm at week 1 and on step 3. So my set consisted of 10-12-7-7- and maxed at 9. But I'm proud of the beginning. It felt good and it was also hell. This morning I went to work and I noticed that the tearing and rending of heaven has happened in my pectoral region. Even now I can feel the strain all over my upper body.

At one point, when I was heading toward doing the max, I went out of my room and told the whole familiy not to be alarmed if they hear me screaming in my room. Thankfully, there was no bellowing...but it's crazy how I can be going strong and steady in the repititions, but suddenly my arms just give out and it is as if a firey Balrog from the Mines of Moria is pushing me into hell with its hulking and gnarled foot.

Anyway, here's another story. I was standing in the classroom at work and for some reason I was feeling my own chest hahahaha. Just like my man Chris Columbus back in the late 1400's discovered a new land...I discovered a new muscle. I felt this like...WIRE muscle. It stretches across both biceps and feels like a massive vein or something hahahaha. It really freaked me out. Then I noticed one of the students looking at me and so I started pounding my chest in order to imitate Sammy Sosa's homerun ritual. It was awkward.

Looking forward to day 2.

- Mello

P.S. I'm glad I only did 14 for my pretest. I feel for you guys who started higher. I really do.

Solid Start to a Solid Chest

I just finished up the Day 1 exercise, and I feel like my pecs are adequately blasted. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou soundtrack, particularly Ping Island/Lightning Strike Rescue Op has inspired me and Joel many times in the past with our interpretive dancing routines, and tonight was no different in inspiration levels as it spurred me on to greater heights of physical prowess. I'm honored to join in this worthy endeavor. I shall attain the goal of 100 push-ups or admit myself a lifetime of failure.

Harder than i thought

I finished it, but it was difficult. Definitely not easy!

trading my sorrows.

I was able to get 17, but i was downhill from there. I basically maxed on every set after, and my last set was 12. I'm going to drop back to week 2. I'm just encouraging myself with these song lyrics: "I'm pressed but not crushed, persecuted not abandoned, struck dooooooooooowwwwnn but not destrooooy oy oyed...."

I hope the rest of you aren't slacking.

Puffed Pecs

PEOPLE: Take an initial "bod" shot before you start your first day to see how far the pecs have come once "mountain man" physique is reached.

First day was rough. Because my max was at least 20, i kept saying, "20?! TWENTYYY UH. 20?" After my first set of 17 I was dying. I have done the deed. Day one DOWN.

Max - 24

be aware

The program suggests that those who have done more than 20 on the initial test should start at week 3.
ok, so...the old guy is in...no laughing.

I Just Ate Pasta

Well I chose a terrible time to do my initial test hahaha. I just had some pasta and then thought, "Hey, if I don't do those push-ups now...I'll forget." I ended up with a sad 14. More so than ever I am determined now to destroy my body.

Push-Up Bra Needed

Thy Preliminary Benchmark

I managed 30.

Got rid of the Bad Blood

Well well well. I figured I would get my test in this morning. I turned on the ganster music with my subwoofer. The track I like to listen to is "White and Nerdy" by Weird Al. The progressive beat just gets me in to a great cadence. It's about 300 bpm, so I'm pretty comfortable doing two reps per beat.

Anyway, I gave blood on thursday (just like my colossal-chested brother) and I wasn't sure how it would affect my performance. I must've gotten all the bad blood out because I managed to squeeze out

45 clean form push ups

for my initial test. I probably won't be able to do ONE for the next couple of days though.

I'm excited to see skiBrian pass up my initial mark,

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

I think the blog will be the best idea. So far, Rocco Chiara (my roommate) and his brother Carmello are on board. Brian, Darren, Jeff and Joel have also joined the ranks.

I plan to do my initial test on Saturday and then start with week 1 on Monday.

The purpose of this blog is for everyone to post their workout results. It will provide accountability and a way for us to encourage us. It should help get us through those days we don't want to pushup.

Let us go forth.
